South Africa National Football Team

The South Africa national football team represents South Africa in international men's football and is managed by the South African Football Association, the official governing body of football in the country.

Nicknamed Bafana Bafana (“The Boys” in Zulu), the team is one of the most supported national sides in Africa and is recognized for its traditional yellow and green colors.

After a long period of suspension due to the apartheid system, South Africa returned to international football in 1992. Since then, the team has participated in major competitions including the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

The team’s greatest achievement was winning the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. They also reached the final again in 1998.

South Africa has participated in the FIFA World Cup in 1998, 2002 and 2026, as well as in 2010 as the host nation, becoming the first African country to host the tournament.
